Dr. Richard Happ is a partner at Luther in Hamburg and Co-Head of the firm’s Complex Disputes Group. He is widely recognized as one of Germany’s leading arbitration practitioners, with a distinguished reputation for representing clients in high-value and politically sensitive disputes. Richard has acted as counsel in proceedings under ICSID, ICC, SCC, UNCITRAL, and DIS rules, with a global track record spanning Stockholm, The Hague, Geneva, Paris, Washington, and Singapore. He also regularly sits as arbitrator and serves on the panels of several major arbitral institutions.
Renowned for his work in energy, infrastructure, and investment treaty arbitration, Richard represented Vattenfall in its two ICSID cases against Germany and is known for combining technical excellence with commercial insight.
